Rob Stuart was the winemaker at Erath for a number of years and has gone out on his own for the last couple of years. I stopped at the winery a couple weeks ago and picked up a case of this (I think the per bottle price is $36). This is the first bottle I've tried since tasting the wine there.

Ripe cherries, earth, and a few smoky notes in the nose. A nice burst of cherries on the palate, with a continuation of the earth and smoke, and a hint of molasses. Good structure, no apparent tannins, and a nice long finish. This is not an overpowering wine (which Pinot shouldn't be IMO), but is flavorful and elegant. This will probably age pretty well, but why wait? 91 points.

We visited and tasted with Rob last year at his (very cool) winery. What a nice guy. We liked the Pinot, and I remember his second label(?) Big Fire. There was a story behind that, memory escapes me.

This was a good find, one of those well-guarded "secret" Oregonian beauties.

I love the wines that come out of Goldschmidt.. Haven't had the R. Stuart.. I'll try and track one down.

I really like the wines from this vineyard as well. I have a 1999 Adelsheim Salud! cuvee from this vineyard and love it. In addition, Bill Hatcher had a small amount of wine that he made from this vineyard in his 2002 blend (the Hatcher, not the A to Z) and I thought those were the nicest barrels that went into his wine.
