I had this last night alongside of the 2003 QC. Decanted for 4+ hours. The 2003 was definitely better than the 2002, but neither wine blew me away. This was a very big wine, that definitely needs more time in the bottle, as after 6+ hours it was still not giving much more. No heat, good mouth feel, but not a big finish. Not as much fruit coming through as the 2003.
This was a very good wine, but did not meet my expectations for a 100 point wine. (92 pts.)

| | Retaurant agressively decanted for about 90 mins prior to arrival - waited another 45 mins. Still a little tight, but elegant with all the right stuff. 94 with room to grow. | | | |

| | That monster needs at least 5-8 years in the bottle and then 1-3 hours in the decanter after that. Thanks for the notes. | | "Why Keep Score if you are not going to play by the rules?" | |

| Definitely not a 100 point wine but I think will go to 95-96 points.
2002 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, Washington (11/4/2006) VC's Third Annual Cult Smackdown (Sunnyvale, CA www.lionandcompass.com): Tasted single blind. Probably 93.5 points and just below the Pride Reserve in my ratings. It was clear that this wine was different from the others. I had this as the QC early on due to its blueberry aromas and flavors along with something that smells like bacon to me. This wine was balanced with no hint of heat. There was the impression of big structure but it was significantly lighter in weight than the other wines in the flight except the Ridge Monte Bello. The 02 may be a better wine than the 03. The rest of my bottles will continue to sleep. This was my #2 wine of the flight of 6 wines. (93 pts.)

Tasted April 21, 2007 at an offline. Decanted at least 3 plus hours before tasting. Tasted from a Spiegelau Authentus Magnum glass. Dark purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Tight nose not giving up any fruit, just aromas of fennel and saddle soap. Chewy flavors of black currants and berries. Medium acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Hold at least another five plus years and then we’ll talk. No rating. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| | Had one of these 2 weekends ago. Didn't take notes, but didn't really need to. The tannins were starting to integrate, but still it's way too young to enjoy it at its fullest. There was an interesting asphalt aspect to the smell, in addition to all the requisite fruit/floral aromas. Hopefully I can remember to not open another for say another 3-4 more years. | | | |
