2004 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon - Washington
Decanted 4 hr’s. Great nose of blueberry, violets and pie crust along with red currants and white chocolate notes. On the palate, this has great presence and weight – a nice combination of smoothness, power and supple, sweet tannins. Flavors of blueberry, red currants, cassis, and vanilla bean dominate on the palate. The finish is just tremendous in its length, breadth and persistent fruit. This opened up more throughout the evening and should continue to improve with more cellar time. S96  7/27/2007

Can you compare this to previous vintages esp. 2003? TIA.

I scored the ‘03 a 98. They are both great wines, but the ‘04 does not have the depth and complexity of the ‘03. The ‘04 exhibited more blueberry flavors than what I recall from the ‘03. Both vintages reflect the change in vineyard source for fruit and more aggressive tannin management.

Ruby purple, opaque with a moderate nose of rubber rafts, black cherry, chocolate covered coffee beans, alcohol and loads of oak. Full body, moderate complexity, low acidity and high tannin. On the palate, oak, oak, oak and alcohol. Once you could get through that their was some blackberry liqueur and asphalt hidden underneath. No balance what so ever. NR (I am scared to even tack a score unto this).

Had a bottle of this blind at a tasting that paired $100+ bottles with less than $20 bottles.  The '04 Quilceda Creek was one of my least favorite wines of the evening.
