I don't know whether to call the 2003 Owen Sullivan R3 O/S or Owen Sullivan since there seems to be some squabble over the name. In any case, it was an excellent rendition of the classic Bordeaux blend. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. I opened a 375 to have when I got back in from shoveling snow. A very nice bottle of wine.

Spice and warm blackberry and black cherry nose. Well structured with a lot of depth. Lots of black fruit and a little chocolate on the palate. Fairly long finish with firm tannins. Was quite enjoyable with a warmed over serving of cassoulet after a couple of hours of shoveling snow. 90 pts

I guess the proper name is O/S but on Cellar Tracker it is listed as the 2003 Owen Sullivan R3.ÂI opened a 375ml bottle last night to have steaks with the boy.  Still excellent, especially after about an hour open.  Black current, a little blackberry, a slight note of chocolate, soft tannins, very drinkable.

Can't wait to try this myself - recently got a delivery of some bottles & a mag of this I ordered last winter (along with a large amount of other Wash State Wines - such as Bunchgrass & some Ded Rekonings (#3 & 4), Owen Roe, others). I have really enjoyed other OS wines - such as the Ulysses from earlier vintages (01/others). I think these wines - Wash State reds - are great drinks - and are priced better then comparable Cali reds. I like the (often) somewhat softer blended wines - and Wash State Merlot seems to generally come accross really lush & rich - giving a lot of meat and fruit fuzziness to the wines versus the more austere (and often more noticibly tannic and some times out of balance) Cali cabs. I think the Wash State blends are often more acidic as well and go better with food. The Ulysses was a powerhouse and not as soft as most other Wash State blends Ive had - but great fruit, concentration and structure.  I'm expecting similar with the 03 S3.
