| 2003 Owen Roe Merlot. DuBrul Vineyard, Yakima Valley, Washington. 14.5% alcohol. $45. 140 cases produced. Made from a vineyard located in the north-west portion of Yakima Valley on a small outcropping in the Rattlesnake Hills, this wine has a medium black cherry red color with an immediately appealing nose of juicy fruit and sweet toasty oak. Over a short period of time, the wine's flashy aromatics significantly diminish and soon offer only soft chocolaty oak and cherry. Soft and fruity in the mouth with plenty but not too much new oak. A crowd-pleasing style of wine that is better off being consumed early in its life. Reminds me of a detuned Pahlmeyer. Drink now to 2009. 87+ points. | | | |
