to add to the above. when tasted at home i think he tastes all the way until the wine is oxidized. this way i think he can drum up a drinking window.

Tasted at the BAWE Feb. 2004 Hamburgers and Cab tasting at skwid's...

A wow nose, this wine is really singing. Sweet American oak really comes through on the nose, with vanilla and spice accenting tremendous fruit – blackberries, black cherries, and cassis. Very spicy on the smooth velvety palate, with intense pure fruit, excellent depth, fine texture. A beautifully integrated wine that will only get better, my WOTN. 96 points.

Excellent Eric. Any update on the drinking window?

This stuff is still a baby, I'm going to try to keep my hands off mine for at least another 3-4 years and then drink over the next 5-7.

eric,

was it decanted and if so how long? i agree with you on this sooooooo much. i just love this wine. this is the only qc i have ever had even thoough i have the 98 & 99 in the cellar as well. it will be hard to keep my hands off of them for 5 more years. someday i can't wait to crack open a magnum.

This wine was opened about 3:30 p.m. or and decanted into a Spiegelau Vino Grande magnum decanter (thankfully provided by GATC). By the time Eric_White tasted this it was around 6:30 p.m. or so. I had it by 5:00 p.m. with Hamburgers and it was fantastic.

Isn't the 2001 supposed to significantly better than the 2000? I'm still wavering on loading up on the 2001 given an extremely tight budget situation.

However, I can be talked into it!

It is supposed to be better Kimber. The 2002 is supposed to be even better. If you want some I'd see if you can get together with some folks and split a six pack or case (the bottle price goes down about 8% if you buy a case). I bought a case and SFWine purchased four of them.

Minor point, but they use 100% new french oak:

I agree with everyone else here that this was an awesome cab.

I'm not surprised, at that price. That's the lowest price for the 2000 I've heard of.
