| | $17. Very dark red/black, not quite opaque. Floral notes (violets especially), dried prune, figs, red cherries on the nose. The palate is medium bodied to full bodied, mostly cherry with a little vanilla, a little unbalanced acidity, no real tannic structure, finished medium. Was a complement to dinner (creme of potatoe and garlic soup, but there isn't much going on here. The level of extraction doesn't do much for this wine overall, just makes it thicker. 84 points. | | | |

As a reference point, what/did you rate the 99 Kiona?
Thanks | | | |

| | Unfortunately, just recently was the first time I've seen this producer, I had hoped for a better wine as I believe the '99 was rated at 92 points. | | | |

| tj,
i bought four bottles and consumed one the first night. i am not good at tasting notes. this was my first washington cab that reminded me of a napa cab. well deserving of the 92 pts. if you know where i can get some more let me know.

| TJ/others:
I have had a bottle of the 99, with another 6 in reserve. It is excellent stuff, and believe I paid about $16/bottle. I think this will age nicely for at least 5-6 more years.
I bought a bottle, put 6 on hold, then went back and tried to get some more, but it was gone. If you can get some, jump on it. The regular Kiona has a maroon/reddish label. They also make a reserve (blue label) that runs about $25. I believe the 99 got a 91 WS rating, but I didn't buy any of that.

| | I had the 99 Kiona Sunday night/Monday night- first nt gave it 89-90 pts, med-bodied, oaky, a bit tannic but good structure and fruit. Second nt the tannins smoothed a bit and the wine had much more complexity and flavors- tasted like a $40 Cab- would go to 91+ pts. Great QPR at 14.99, which is what I paid for it... | | | |

| I just received this in an email today:
90-91 Points - Gary Vaynerchuk - Wine Library Director of Operations. From Washington State - made from Cabernet Sauvignon "This wine starts off with a bang and finishes even better. The 2000 Kiona is even more refined and complex then the 1999 which was a huge winner. People who enjoy complex Cabernet's like Duckhorn and Chimney Rock will enjoy fresh and exciting style of Kiona!"

| Kiona sends out a "daily" email?" Good for them.
Comparing it to Duckhorn and Chimney Rock may be a big stretch, however.

| Thanks, that what I thought, it just read like a Kiona thing. They are not that "up to speed." | | | |
