After that fiasco, they might not want you to come!

Flavorizer bars are great for one thing and one thing only. Starting fires. I won't buy another weber grill with those damn bars in it.

A number of the replies said you had some bottles planned for 2006. Any new TNs?

Had this last night for Valentine's dinner. Bought on release.
FABULOUS nose that opened all evening. All I could think of was blueberry cobbler! Delicious initially and just got better. The blueberries continued on the palate, along with anise, cocoa, and a touch of mint. Long, long complex finish. Full-bodied with round, soft, tannins. No caramel or any off-putting odors or flavors in this bottle. I think this is one of the two or three best wines I've had this year along with the '97 Lamborghini Campoleone and '94 Vega Sicilia Unico. Should improve for another decade, but I can't see why you need to wait! 97+ points in my book.

How long did you decant this?

I just opened it, poured it into two Riedels, and drank it over the course of about 3 hours.

Sounds good. Did it show best at any particular point?

You know, it was great from about fifteen minutes after pouring until it was finished. If you have one, TRY IT. It was just a delicious, long, lovely wine in my humble opinion.

I actually have one in the queue to open soon. I was just trying to figure out whether it needed any kind of decant, length, etc...

Opened 3 hours before decanting and aerated 1 hour in decanter - aromas of black berries, plums, licorice, menthol, mint, and grilled meats. Dark fruits and licorice on the palate - slightly warm, but developing complexity. Open another bottle in 2 years. (92 pts.)

I had a glass left in the bottle which I finished 2 nights after opening and it was still fresh, vibrant and tasty.

Decant, decant!! My score might be low because of the alcohol on the finish. Mr. Winetex agreed on this point.

  • 1999 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, Washington (5/6/2008)
Dark ruby color with red rim; Aromas of menthol, cassis and toasty oak. This wine had complex flavors of cassis, blueberry jam, dark chocolate and licorice. The very long finish included a smoke note along with the licorice and cassis. It had a very large, solid structure but the balance was off as there was an alcohol burn on the finish. This wine also has tannins and acid to resolve. As always different bottles mature at different rates so everyone's mileage may vary. This bottle was pristine - picked up from the winery and never shipped. A very good wine that will probably continue to improve. (14.5% alcohol; Decanted only about 15 minutes and needed much more; keep the serving temp on the cool side to calm the alcohol) (93 pts.)

Start decanting at an hour and go from there you think?

Yes, an hour in an open decanter would probably do it. Longer with a double decant.

I had one of these recently and at about 4 hours it was most open.  Followed over the next 2 hours and never faded a bit.  Lovely wine....93- 94 pts in my estimation.  But these are really just on the front edge of a drinking window. I have my next bottle set for 2010.
