92 WS; 92 IWC; 92 Winetex; $35

This wine is a blend of 54% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 21% cabernet franc. We tried a bottle of this in 11/2003 and it was very primary and not that interesting. Six months later this is a dynamite wine with great raspberry and blueberry aromas along with minerals. This wine is very structured, balanced and has a very silky mouthfeel along with some nutmeg and clove spices.

I served this blind to Mr. Winetex who guessed it to be an Italian Super Tuscan blend. It has more minerality that most US blends so he didn’t think it was a US wine.

I bought this wine after meeting Ben, the Cadence winemaker, at the WS Seattle party and am truly pleased with the purchase.

14.6% alcohol; Decanted 45 minutes

I right there with you Winetex, this is great stuff and I purchased following the Soiree as well. I haven't opened on in a while, any comments on a the drinking window of this?

Eric - go ahead and try one. For my palate it was drinking very well. It was throwing a lot of sediment and the tannins and acid were in balance but in the background. This one is now on a six month schedule until they are gone. Really nice wine.

Since the last bottle we tried in 6/04 the dark fruits have given way to more red fruit such as raspberry. This wine was silky smooth, balanced and delightful to drink.

[$35; Decanted one hour and serve with grilled tri-tip steak] (92 pts.)

Thanks Winetex, sounds like I better start digging into 'em, I have a fair amount myself.

Thanks WT, must tee one up - have you tried a Tapteil lately?

Davemci - I was never able to find the Taptiel so the answer is no. It was certainly good when we tasted it at the Seattle Soiree at Delille.

Today Ben & Gaye at Cadence received a very nice set of ratings from Steve Tanzer for their 2002's, so I felt compelled to open a Cadence to 'celebrate'. Congrats!

54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 21% Cabernet Franc. This is clearly Ciel du Cheval with unmistakeable, soaring aromatics of flowers and raspberry, joined by coffee, red currant, spicy cedar and a hint of volatility. Hmm, with air the spicy wood notes are getting a bit obtrusive. On the palate this is silky and welcoming yet intense, sappy, and palate-coating, with very bright acid, showing pomegranate, cassis and hints of coffee. The finish is long and dusty with impressively silky tannins that hang with you for minutes afterward. This is far, far too young, yet there is so much here to enjoy already. I've got half a bottle remaining that I will let sit in the cellar overnight to see what this does. (91 pts.)
