| 2001 Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley
Tasted at an offline so brief comments only.
Excellent cabernet sauvignon from Washington. Mostly dark fruits, cassis and some red berries on the nose and palate. The nose and palate seem a lot like a Bordeaux wine to me. Not hugely tannic for such a young wine. Seems to me to have the stuff to last for several years. I’d let this one sit for 3-4 years and try again. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| I opened this at dinner last night with several other cabs and I thought this had WAY too much oak. I'm not adverse to wood, but my feeling was that this might take several years to integrate and that right now it dominated the wine.
My reference point for WA cabs is of course QC so I may be overly critical. The 2000 QC at the same age had much better integration and it was so much more enjoyable.

| | Leonetti has a history of over-oaking wines for most palates. I've tasted them many times and have not found one that I liked. | | | |

| Leonetti makes some of the best Washington State Cabernets. They are very full bodied and very extracted. AND they need time to show themselves. They may seem overly oaked at first but given enough time in the cellar the component parts marry and complement each other just like a good Bordeaux. At $60 or so per bottle I consider it a bargain (well, not maybe a bargain) when you compare it to certain Napa Valley wines.
