Tasted at the 2004BAWE Holiday High-end Tasting...

An absolutely fantastic nose that is both deep and complex, with wonderful floral notes, blackberries, raspberries, kirsh, and minerals. On the palate the wine possesses outstanding structure and depth, with beautiful integrated tannins, layered complex fruit, and a fine long finish. Just a baby, this wine should really blossom with cellar time, 95+ points, try again in five years.

The wine was splash decanted and then immediately rebottled at about 9am that morning. So it had about 7 hours of double decant before it was tasted.

As I said in the other thread, I thought the wine was showing young and a little disjointed, but showing great potential. I'm not opening any bottles for personal use for at least 3-4 years.

So you won't open it for 3-4 years for personal use, but what use would you open for within then next 3-4 years?

I think this was my favorite wine of the tasting. It is a really great wine. Too bad I don't have any. Anyone want to trade (some '01 Paloma Merlot, perhaps?)

i will highly reccomend that you do whatever you can to secure some of this.

also remember 02 is coming soon and from all indicators it is supposed to be the best qc cab ever.

anthonyiezzi: where did you hear/read that the 02 is the best ever? Just wondering... That would be saying a LOT. And, if that is the case, what kind of allocations will we get??? A cut perhaps??? Hope NOT.

lcc,

rovani has it barrel scored 97-100. i spoke with alex's wife earlier this year and she said that the 02 was going to be the best ever. she said i know that is hard to believe but they really feel the 02 is going to be something special.

maybe 02 is going to be the year they move to allocations, but i hope not. i am looking to buy 24 750's and 6 mags. the real key is to order your mags asap.

Any suggestions?

I am tempted to open a 2000 or 2001 but I'm hesitant. Is either one worth opening now and if so how much time would you recommend decanting?

FWIW...my second 2000 is scheduled for 2006 and my second 2001 is scheduled for 2008.

Remember I was using my crystal ball routine on these wines my first few vintages with them. One bottle was sacrificed for the sake of science. The rest are scheduled out.

12 - 18 hrs for either is about right. make sure to save 1 glass for the next day. put it back in the cellar without vacuuming it. you will be amazed. the 1st 01 i opened drank awesome for 4 days just being recorked.

Thanks for the response to this.

I have only 5 of each and originally had the 2000 scheduled for '06 and the 2001 for '08. I think I'm going to stick with that. I have a '97 that maybe a better alternative for now.
