I got the Cipher Lab 1000 (USB model) barcode reader throughTotalBarCode.com. It was $99 with free shipping. Ordered it on Sunday and it arrived yesterday (Wednesday). The downloadable PDF instruction manual was sort of intimidating, but I found that with both Cellar! and Cellartracker, I didn't need to do any configuration and it worked right after plugging it in to my USB port.
Note: I'm using the Avery label option with Cellartracker. Ithink the Dymo label printer may require a different setting.
This is the barcode scanner that I recommend here: http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/tm.asp?m=1691
It easily handles the Code 3 of 9 that I use/recommend with the Avery labels. It also works very well, no config required, with the Interleaved 2 of 5 that I currently use with the Dymo template.
BTW, on CellarTracker please note that you can scan a barcode directly into the search control at the left or into this page: http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=Scan
And if anyone is playing with one of the fancy new scanners that lets you scan a whole bunch of barcodes offline and then spit them back in bulk, there is also this page: http://www.cellartracker.com/bulkscan.asp
Have fun!!! | | | |

Thanks Eric. That works. What I was thinking that it would be nice to have it in the "Summarize By:" section.
Larry, do you mean like this?
Artemis is indeed your first vertical in your posession, but you actually have 6 other verticals if you count pending deliveries...

Me as well. I started writing a program of my own, and realized how much time, effort, and real sweat would go into it. | | Visit The Butcher Block at http://www.butcherblocktampa.com/

| Maybe a little dumpster diving here but CT has a new feature that is lots of fun called "Buddies". You can designate which tasting note writers you want to flag with a star. Also of interest is that you can tell who has you as one of their favorite TN writer. I'm busily adding in a few folks - so far WIML, Tanglenet, Futronic, KellyW and steffenpelz but there will be some others. Fun, fun. | | | |

| | Winetex, I was about to do the same and add you and others, but wanted to get more info about the "buddy" system. So, far, I haven't used that feature yet. Is there any instructions on it? One day, it just appeared. | | TN posted on Cellartracker "I drink no more than a sponge." François Rabelais www.tanglenet.com | |

| | You have to look up the numeric user ID to add a buddy? And there's no way to do that from within the "add buddy" interface? | | | |

| | I will give Eric the benefit of the doubt and assume that this feature isn't fully done yet. Lookup options (or entering buddies by username) and the ability to add a user as a buddy any time you're looking at their tasting notes seem to be obvious extensions. | | | |

| | Buddies looks pretty cool ... One (relatively) easy way to add a buddy is to click on "Click to see the community's favorite authors" on the Buddies page. At least for now, that's a manageable-sized list to sort alphabetically - assuming someone else has looked up the member # and added them as a favorite. | | | |

| | I assume that this is different than the Buddies who are allowed to look at your inventory, yes?

| | Bob, it looks like they are different lists. Cellartracker calls the tastiing note authors "favorites", and "buddies" are thiose that can view your cellar. | | | |

| | Ah, you can also use the "favorite author" link that appears in tasting notes (along with "click to find this wine", "report issue", and "ignore"). | | | |

| Eric explains what's going on in his release notes:
There is still some work he'll be doing on this feature.
Notes from "favorites" on my wines - GREAT feature!!
