Awesome, glad you like the RSS! I will be 'doinking' it a bit over the next few days to work out some quirks, but I enjoy it too!

does that mean the site will be down periodically?

Oh, no no. It just means that the XML output will change subtly. You should barely notice. (In general, even when I prop big updates to the site the 'outage window' is usually about 15 seconds with maybe one refresh required. However, the RSS output is much simpler, just dropping in a new ASP file.

Eric,

First off...Cellartracker rocks. Second thing just FYI..your link from the RSS to yahoo has doublehttp:// so it makes it a dead link.

Thanks Kyle, I fixed that doubled http:

I also did the 'doinking' that I wanted to with the page, cleaned up a few invalid XML quirks, codepage issue, and now the feed appears to be fulyl valid and works with both SharpReader and my Hand RSS reader on my palm. I need to get a link to that onto the site as well.

Cool, I love this RSS stuff!

Exactly, tweaking. The tweak is done now.

Check out this page: http://www.cellartracker.com/rssoptions.asp
Or this one: http://rss.softwaregarden.com/aboutrss.html

In short, you can subscribe to feeds from multiple websites and either have a website like Yahoo or many others or a program on your computer which runs around to the sites and looks for new content. So instead of browsing to all of the websites directly, you can pull data from them into an email-like interface that is easy to review.

I have created two 'feeds' from CellarTracker. One is a list of all of the most recent tasting notes. (You can specify how many notes to pull with a default of 50.) The other is a list of notes that are filtered to only show notes written by other users on wines in your cellar. These are both views that already exist on the site, but it is nice to be able to get at them easily and offline from my PC and Treo (cellphone).

You cna navigate a vertical fairly easily: from any given wine in the series, there is a vintage dropdown at the upper right. Just pick another vintage to pop over.

How else did you have in mind to display the vertical?

Yippee! My barcode reader arrived today. Seems to work with both CellarTracker.com and Cellar! right out of the box. Damn! I was hoping that this would help me decide which to use.

But having the barcode reader is cool though.

Although it is merely repeating at this stage, just wanted to post a thanks to Eric for responding and dealing so quickly with questions and suggestions. MLV asked a question on RSS and poof it was taken care of.

Incredible and much appreciated.

I got the Cipher Lab 1000 (USB model) barcode reader throughTotalBarCode.com. It was $99 with free shipping. Ordered it on Sunday and it arrived yesterday (Wednesday). The downloadable PDF instruction manual was sort of intimidating, but I found that with both Cellar! and Cellartracker, I didn't need to do any configuration and it worked right after plugging it in to my USB port.

Note: I'm using the Avery label option with Cellartracker. Ithink the Dymo label printer may require a different setting.

Thanks Eric. That works. What I was thinking that it would be nice to have it in the "Summarize By:" section.
