| Question: My brother bought a new house. And, of course, he has to move a lot of our Wine from his Cellar. He is just Moving from 1 end of the town to the next. So, it is Not that bad. BUT, if people have opinions/options on the "Best/Easiest" way to move these, it would be appreciated.
The only way I can think of it is to pack everything back into the Wine Boxes & take them 1-by-1 from the Cellar to the Car & from the Car to the Basement of the new house. You see where I am going with this. It will NOT be easy on the lower back & all. And, it will take a LOT of Time. We are talking about a lot of Wine here. A lot.
Any "other" suggestions? Thank You.

| There are only two real options with moving:
1) do it yourself (which sucks) 2) pay someone else to do it
I think the only other option your brother has is to look up a wine moving specialist (yellow pages). Their rates may not seem out of this world especially since the move is "in town."
Matt DeBord from WS wrote an article on this I believe...

| I will be moving also soon. Fortunately, I only have some 13-15 cases to move so it won't be that bad. I actually have packed 5 cases last night and will be putting them in my car to take to my mother's basement. The temp there is perfect right now. We start new house shopping in the March. I'll leave all my wine at my Mom's until then. I still need more boxes. Anyone know where I can buy case boxes? Not like the Fetzer kind, but the one's you get when you get your mailing list wines shipped to you.

| I have about 8 or so boxes for wines... just the cardboard type I could give away to anyone.
Maybe only 6 now that I think about it. Let me know if anyone needs them. I always throw em out eventually anyway. \ | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

| I helped my stepfather move his cellar back in 1997 all 2000 +/- bottles of it. We moved all of it out of one cellar case by case with four people (chain gang) into one of those little U-haul trucks (10ft I believe) and drove it ourselves to Rochester 220 miles away. I personally would only trust myself and those I know for this type of move. If it was going across country that might be consideration to hire a moving company. Across town, you might just want to get 3 or 4 friends, get one of the local $19.99 U-hauls, and blow through that move in a few hours. By the end you will really want a nice big wine. | | | |

| I agree Seek1.
lcc - Here's my advice. Price out the moving company. Then, hire a few buddies to assist in the move and offer them some sort of compensation. You use people you trust, the wine stays safe and gets moved, and your friends do a good deed and get paid for it. Everyone wins in the end.
I'll help for a bottle or two of Harlan Estate!

| | I agree with Seek and STW. I hired a couple buddies when I moved to PA and it worked out great. | | | |

| Thank You. This is what we have been considering also.
And, No. I do NOT trust Movers (with WINE). I moved 3 years ago. New furniture, @ all. The guys were recommended. They did a pretty good job. But, screws were lost. Some stuff was banged up. Etc..., so NO.
I was afraid of that. A lot of work ahead of us.
And, yes, we have some guys that drink enough of our Wine(s).
And, NO, seek1. Will take care of it...

| This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing it right.
I moved around 600 bottles that I had in 2 rental storage places to my new house and cellar. My son and I moved it all in our van. It took 2 trips and it can be hard on your back, but I would not trust movers with my wine. I used a luggage carrier which held 3 cases at a time - this helped a lot. If you are moving a lot, a hand truck would do the same, but be steadier.

| Cmon, LCC. These guys are willing to sling cases all day and you won't even offer up some Landmark or Martinelli?

| If it were a longer haul, I would look into a wine mover that has temperature controlled trucks. Since it is only across town, do it yourself. Get people who will work for wine..... | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |
