Sloppy wax seal?

I just got a 3 liter bottle with a wax seal that looks like a used candle. At least a couple layers and very uneven. Looks like a 10 year old did it. This was on a 2005 Bordeaux that was bought from a retailer and imported by Wine Warehouse in L.A. Obviously my first thought was...did someone switch the juice and do a sloppy wax seal? Or has anyone else seen such a poor wax seal from Europe (perhaps)? Bottle in question is a 2005 Quinault l'Enclos ($146 on futures...actually forgot I bought it).

I had a few bottles of 2002 Belle Glos Pinot that had "sloppy" wax...or at least sloppier than current releases, which now include a convenient tab to help with removal. But by the way you describe your Quinault I really don't think the Belle compares. Where did you purchase the future from? If possible, maybe contact them with this issue and see what they say?

A 3 L is going to be hand-bottled as well as the wax so I wouldn't worry about it. As Vine says maybe ask the retailer questions (did all of the bottles look that way?).
