| The Chronicle published an article today about future cult wines, and several have been discussed in VinoCellar before! Many thanks to you all for turning me on to the pleasures of a cellar full of Aubert and Drinkward Peschon. Scarecrow anyone??? Thoughts? PS: You all are doing a GREAT job of keeping Bressler a secret. It blows my mind that they have not picked up on that gem yet... | | |

| My first thought when reading this was "Don't expose the world to Drinkward!"
Second, the Scarecrow thing is scary! Unbelievable that a 98 from Parker can have the kind of effect that it does...
And can you imagine having to turn down DeNiro? He might "know some guys..."
(Although I'm sure he can certainly more than afford to meet the insane pricing on the secondary...)

| | I'm not even going to bother to click the link. If I hear one more time about the next cult or the vintage of the century I think I'll puke. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| You can sign up for Aubert and be offered a case of $80 Chards the next Spring - is that really a cult?
Buy wines you enjoy to drink. And enjoy wine as if nobody else cared. That is when you will find great wine.

| I'm just glad they gave props to Salina in their "Top 10 wines to watch"......Kevin Kelly is the next Michael Browne. If you want to try an incredible domestic late harvest Chard, you need to pick up the stuff he bottled for Lioco and Heintz. It's out of this world good! That's just the tip of his amazing iceberg. We have been through cases and cases of his Spot On Pinot Blanc (one of the owners also happens to own Mirepoix).....damn I love this stuff! Then of course there is his own Pinot, Chard and Syrah.....hopefully this article won't make these harder to source! I was surprised to see Keefer Ranch listed.....they only had one release so far.....and it's way too young to drink......but we at least know the source is good! AP Vin got honorable mention, as did Zepeltas. No Shane...no Ketcham...and no Sandler.....the writer didn't do a thorough job! Thank goodness! Chris

I would agree their Chards are not cultish...but the Pinots.....they are right there. However, how can they mention the new "cult" wines with no mention of KB? Based on internet buzz alone, this is the biggest new cult wine on the block......amazing wait list.....huge following....amazing wines.....not a comment. Bizzare.

Agreed - how could the author miss KB?

| Parker does not care for KB, so they do not have the scores to qualify as a true cult. Unfortunate but true, WS, Tanzer, etc do not make cults.
Anyone see the list of 6 on page F4-5? I don't have the physical paper.
Chris, based upon the one bottle of Keefer I've consumed, I would put them on the cult radar, for certain. Drinkward is awesome of course. Kongsgaard... they missed that boat. Scarecrow did NOT sell out in 16 hours -- as I recall they had multiple waves.
One quote that amused me... "You really have to have all the stars aligned"... hmm, maybe Small Vines is the next cult :-)

| I was damn shocked to be included! Would have been great to see Rivers Marie and Native 9! All in all I thought the story was very well written...although lots of the info was "stale" for those of us (like this board!) in the know. Andrew | | | |

I think scores are just a part of it. KB is definitely at cult status right now, despite Parker's predilection to rate them low. Perhaps that's what pisses him off more than anything? How can they be a cult until I have ordained it as so? Good to hear about the Keefer!
You may be on to something regarding Small Vines! I wonder if this is a pruning day? Let me run and check the horoscope! Chris

I don't know enough about winemaking to make that call, but I do feel comfortable in stating they are both outstanding. My comment about the "next Michael Browne" is the fact he is relatively unknown to consumers....but I think that is going to change very soon. Everything Kevin touches seems to be excellent....and every time I barrel taste with him I can't help but get caught up in the excitement and enthusiasm he has for the wine. Pete, is he making anything with your grapes? Chris

Chris, that means that David Arthur is a cult. 3,000 person waiting list, impossible to obtain. Except now it isn't. If you sign up for the list, you get an offer. Things change. I like Kosta Browne, and I am happy to buy it. I would be nervous if I were buying hoping to flip for a profit. Prices are coming down (although PC did finally sell their bottles of the '03 4 Barrel ($59)).

| | I agree that Kosta Browne couldn’t be included on this authors list due solely to their premise that the wine must be blessed by Parker, but this doesn’t explain why they would include some wineries like Keefer which don’t have a RMP score. | | | |

| Andrew, congrats, and well deserved.
I think that you have to be reasonably scarce and have high scores. I read somewhere that Kosta Browne made 3500 cases of 06 RR Pinot...or was that bottles?. Is that true?
Salinia, that is one to watch...I will have to try a few to see what it's about.
But really, there are SO MANY good offerings to choose from. This is purely a subjective piece by the author. Still fun to see some of our friends in print. Congrats to all...
