I'm replacing my (very old) active wine cooling unit.  This one I will be putting in my garage.  I'm looking for a walk-in unit such that I can store all my wine including cases.  This is one that I've run across, and it seems pretty good:

I've found some others, including a GE Monogram cellar that is the ultimate tech toy, but I really just want something reliable (and relatively affordable) that can store between 1,000 and 2000 bottles.

Thoughts please?

Randy - In our old house, we purchased a similar unit in 1986 before building a permanent wine cellar.  We gave the unit to a friend and he's still using it (recently replaced the cooling unit however).  Would recommend this walk-in if you don't have space to build a permanent cellar.  You will definitely need two people to assemble it (panels are big, heavy and awkward).  While it's a bear to take apart it is portable and for the storage capacity not a bad price.  I recall it was relatively inexpensive to operate since it's a small footprint to cool.

What Karen said with one added comment. Beware of the racking. Mine has as tendency to pull away from the wall towards the center of the cellar when weighed down with wine and that allows bottles to tumble down on themselves towards the back of the rack. I've spent quite a bit of time retrofitting that racking and I've promised myself that if it happens one more time I'm going to yank every bit of it out and replace with free standing racking of my choosing.

Given the price, its tough to argue with this unit.  You'd spend way more than this just having custom racking fabricated for a cellar.

There was a thread awhile ago about this. DavidN mentioned a place in Milpitas or Fremont that made walk ins. Unfortunately, I can't find it via the Search feature.

Yes, but they are more expensive.  It turns out the cellars are all manufactured right here in San Jose, so I don't have any shipping concerns at all.

Both places show the 900 model for sale; the place down south has it for $3278 and the place in Livermore has it for $3031.60. I thought you might want to call the place in Livermore to see what their price on the 1900 would be.

Here's the place in Milpitas you might want to visit. They show the 1900 on their website for $4795 less 15% = $4075.75 (but I'll bet this is very negotiable). One also gets a extra year parts-only warranty on entire cooling system, and a Lifetime Loaner Program to temporarily receive replacement Breezaire cooling system up to max of 60 days.

I have one of the 1300 models and it works pretty well. I would however purchase the larger cooling unit. Also the cooling unit is NOT very quite so don't expect to put this in a room in the house. I've been pretty happy with mine. I think it was a bit under $4K delivered and installed.

Damn! Look who's resurfaced!  Nice to hear from you.
When you say "installed" does that imply that you had someone do the assembly.  One of the things that has held me back from one of these is that I simply don't want to pay that much, or put that much trust in anything that I assemble myself.  I am one of those suckers who will always pay $150 extra for the "white glove" delivery where the item is unpacked, assembled and trash removed.  Can these cellars be so ordered?

If you want to be especially brave, I see that there is a Koolspace wineroom listed in the SF Bay Area Craigslist. It's listed in Concord, CA and is supposed to have a capacity of 1,600 bottles and be selling for $800. I've seen a few walk-in wine cellars listed on Craigslist during the past year. Good luck on whatever you decide. The link is http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/fur/620787646.html

Yes, that was delivered on a truck and then assembled.  Mine was made in Union City or Newark (I forget which) so not far from the house.  The guys who delivered it also assembled the cellar and obviously had done it before as they never looked at the instructions.  I think delivery and installation was about $400 and worth it.

Thanks. I agree that it is worth it. Divorce lawyers cost a lot more than $400.
