Yeah, doing the Sideways thing...with a group of 8 adults including soem French friends who would really enjoy some nice Pinot. Anyone have any recs for Santa Ynez winery visits (tastings/tours etc)? Will be going in about 3 weeks. I'm interested in visiting Melville, Fiddlehead and maybe Foley and Sanford....but really don't know. I wanted to visit Jaffurs in Santa Barbara but it seems they will not be open the days we will be around...I may call though and see if they might open up for a group of 8. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Also any eating recs would be helpful...we will have some young children with us...is the Hitching Post really anything special? (I imagine the wine list is desent at least eh?)

By appointment only for the most part, but they are very accommodating:

Brewer-Clifton/Diatom
Palmina
Sea Smoke
Stolpman
Clos Pepe
Kenneth-Crawford
Arcadian
Loring/Pali
Alma Rosa
Cargassachi

to start

Hey thanks - yeah - I know some of these wines - Loring and Sea Smoke would certainly be of great interest - others as well...

If you enjoy Rhone blends, get in touch with Dave Corey of CORE Wines, you won't be sorry.

Agreed - some I had overlooked or wasn't aware of (I am not at all familiar with all of these - but look forward to exploring). Thanks for the recommendations. I may start calling some folks next week. I did pick up a "Quick Access" (laminated/fold up) map and guide for Santa Barbara et al - and besides showing locations of most (but not all) of the wineries it includes phone numbers/contact info as well as hours of operation. I will look into the CORE thingy - as I am a huge Rhone wine fan!
