| | I have the enviable task of choosing the wines for daughter T-Reps upcoming wedding in mid-June.
Just about all of my pinot purchases are off of mailing lists and are at a price point that's higher than what I'm willing to pay for our guests at the wedding. My challenge? To find a pinot in the $25-30 range from California that I can get at retail on the east coast and can get 3-4 cases of. Any suggestions?
TIA, T-Rep | | | |

| T- Rep,
I haven't tried the 2006 yet, but I've been a fan of the last few vintages of Melville's Pinot Noir. It's now slightly over your budget, but MacArthur's shows it for $32.

| T-Rep, skip the California part: 2004 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle-Musigny or 2003 Cristom Pinot Noir Reserve | | | |

| I would definitely second Dan's recommendation for Cep, under $30 from Peay.
I would also add Costa d'Oro Gold Coast Pinot Noir which is under $30 as well.

Are you torturing the man!? The Peay isn't available on the East Coast. Maybe Andy would free some up.

| | Alohaj/Dan...
Ditto what Dave said...while I'm on the Peay mailing list, I fear I'd have to do an incredible amount of begging, groveling, cajoling, etc. to get anywhere near the amount of juice that I'll need for the wedding. While I'd love to hit up the winemakers whose lists I'm on, I don't think that I'll hold my breath waiting for them to say yes, we'd love to sell you three times your allocation....

| | Ha! Yah T-Rep, buy the Cep! Without a doubt (I don't even have a financial interest). Or, even better, get the Rivers-Marie Sonoma. Happy shopping! | | | |

| | Acacia should be readily available. It's under $20 in Costco round here. And I like it, even if nobody else does. | | http://scmwine.blogspot.com - My wine blog. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com - your guide to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley

| Cep, I liked also Melville Estate pinots in the $18-$25 range The Siduri that mountainman mentions is also not bad for the money | | | |

| LCC, the R-M is actually $30 a bottle. Thomas keeps his prices reasonable. There is no way that T-Rep will be able to get 3-4 cases though. Mailing list or no, Wine Searcher shows no Peay Cep on the East Coast. Maybe McArthurs can order. I'd go with the Burg. Fancier label. | | | |

| LCC, Melville estate Pinot hasn't been in that range for a long while around here - it is around $30 a bottle nowadays.
BTW, T-Rep is the wedding reception indoors or outdoors? Maybe the temperature can influence what wine (re: alcohol level) you go with?

Of course! How could I forget! The Sonoma County is killer, and easily obtainable.

It's great, but no longer available from the winery (I asked this morning, in fact). WineSearcher shows that it's available through plenty of retail channels, though, including K&L and Winex. I bought a case on release, may go back for a second.
