It's totally my fault for not checking, but when I arranged for two-day shipping from Premier Cru to VA, I found out it was $94!  Since when did the prices go up so high?Â

Probably since oil hit over $90 per barrel.

Doesn't make it any more economical, but just for comparison, from us for 2Day a 6 pack to VA would be $67/72 (the second number if to a residential address). 7-12 bottles would be $99/104. This would include the shipper and the extra charge for adult signature req'd.

Just be glad you don't pay what we do for shipping to AK...

and there is NEVER a ground option.

Jamietown, I know you know the following, but I never miss a chance to preach this message...

Ground to a biz address is definitely the way to go.  I did some research recently and the wine does continue moving cross country (almost always by train) and really only stops and sits at a warehouse when it arrives at the final hub and is awaiting delivery.  The most dangerous segment of the trip is the time it spends on the brown truck on your driver's delivery route.  At a business, he'll find someone to sign for it.  At a residence, he may not and it goes back on the truck to try again the next day.  Unfortunately, the big tradeoff on ground shipping is while we can try to guess how many days a shipment will take to reach you, there are no guarantees on UPS ground shipping.  And I'll tell you, try as hard as I might, I have not been able to ensure that my wine always ships on a Monday.  Wine also is not as fragile as some people think.  I wouldn't hesitate having wine shipped across country to VA right now as it's not likely to be exposed to super cold temps for any length of time.  Heat is the big enemy.

Kpak, you know I got your back. You and my few customers in the aloha state get that special lives-at-the-ends-of-the-earth discount. Everyone else get's free ground for 6+ bottles again.

Randy, nice post. I second using a business address. If UPS or any other carrier cannot make delivery to your home address they'll try 2 more times before returning the shipment (All the while your wine is sitting on the truck).

Also, free shipping with 6+ bottles!?! Wow! I just signed up for your list.

FWIW, I tried to 2 day ship a single bottle of wine from Durham, NC to Dave Miner in Oakville... in a Miner Family box... and FedEx quoted me $72. That's until they saw that it was a bottle of wine, at which point they told me to go to hell. I almost took the bottle and beat the clerk to death with it.

I'm all for ground shipping whenever possible. But getting a business address to ship to is murder since I live in The Wine Hell That Is Maryland. BAH!

There are not very many that do that.   I truly appreciate it.   Makes it very easy to justify larger orders!

Hum.... looking at this Jessie James looks like a gentleman!

In OZ, I can send a bottle of plonk in a styro shipper from Sydney to Perth (2,500 miles) overnight with guaranteed next day delivery for the sum of US$25.60.

LOL I was very polite to her, just angry as it was an unpleasant experience all around. The cost floored me, and then the lady flipped out on me because I didn't tell her it was a bottle of wine. I explained I was shipping the bottle of wine to a winery, didn't matter - she thought I was trying to pull a fast one. Tried to spin it as "returning a bottle of wine" to the winery, didn't matter... and then she started to chastise me for not having paperwork from the winery for a return. FWIW, this particular box was obviously a Miner Family shipper and had grape and vine graphics all over it, so the idea that I was trying to slip something by her was ridiculous.

I was very fortunate to have a friend hand deliver a similar bottle for me, as my next option was to pack it in a different box, go to a different store and pay $80 or so. BTW - had to do something; Dave went way above and beyond to help me out on the Rosella's horizontal we had, so sending a polite thank you was not an option.
