My first of the year.  Rearranging some things to get some wines to send to auction, magnum met bottle, and magnum won.  Lost one bottle of 2005 Conterno Barbera d'Alba Cascina Francia .

Cellar sure smells good right now though

Hopefully this will be the last one for you this year.

I've been really lucky, I haven't broken a bottle that I can remember. Spilled bottles, stained clothes and lots of broken glasses, but no bottles yet.

I was really lucky and did not break any bottles in 2007.

When I get around to building a fancy-shmanzy wine cellar, the floor is NOT going to be expensive Italian marble or anything of the sort. I am going for the rubberized floor covering used in restaurant kitchens!

There is a video floating around somewhere that shows the Penfolds cellar. Apparently it is gravel and they demonstrate by dropping bottles and glasses with no ill effects.

The gravel must have a good depth of sand base. Either way, dirt and rock would be a tough sell with the Mrs.

Include a Japanese garden. People will flock to see it.

Excellent idea. The Cabs will be behind the Koi pond and the Pinots stored amidst the bonzai trees.

The one thing nice about having a very small cellar is not having this kind of problem. Condolences, though, dude.
