I can think of a clever remark about a mohel, but this is probably the wrong forum.... and besides, a good jewish family will be having Chinese food.

Burgundies - red and white.
But, just like turkey - depends on the preparation and sides.
Now..My sister in law sent us a turducken for Christmas..
What wine goes with turducken?
....and what remark about a mohel? BYOB (bring your own bris'kit?)

So, looks like we'll be going with a couple of Cabs. Perhaps a 2002 Shafer HSS or Araujo. We'll undoubtedly start with some bubbles as well as some Aubert Chard. I'll be finishing up the menu over the next day.Â

Can one make a pousse-café of wine?
Here it's prime rib with the Chardonnay that everyone loves; Rombauer. A couple of Flying Goat Pinots from SRH.
It really doesn't matter too much since I'll be pouring Hanmattens for a couple hours before. My only goal of the evening is to stay vertical. | | | |

| Finally Internet access - some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at the moment.
We went to a WA state liquor store today to buy some wine. It was truly funny - they had an entire wall of wine under $10. Whoo hoooo! I bought a couple of WA wines and will see how it goes.

If you're in Sequim you're not that far (~40 miles) from Poulsbo, where Central Market has an incredibly good produce section (think Berkeley Bowl on steriods), and a very good wine shop - certainly better than the state liquor store. There's also some very good beer up the road toward Kingston at the Hood Canal Brewery. Both are definitely worth the trip. | |

| This year I finally put my foot down and acted like the wine geek that my relatives think I am anyway. We will be eating at my brother's house, with every family member responsible for bringing something. When my sister-in-law called to give me my assignment, I said: "Why don't you just let me bring the wine. Since I have the furthest to drive, it makes more sense for me to bring bottles than a cooked dish that will slosh around in the trunk." When she told me that one of my lazy cousins was going to bring beer and wine (because he doesn't want to bring a cooked dish, depsite living 2 minutes away), I laid it on thick: "Look. He's going to go out and buy a bunch of Woodbridge crap. Which means that I am going to bring my own wine anyway. When I break out my good bottles, which wine are you going to ask for?" She replied: "Yours". "And which wines will the 4 or 5 other people who care about wine reach for?" Again: "Yours". "So if everyone who cares about wine is going to drink mine, what is the point of having Mr. Lazy Cousin spend money on crap that will go unopened? Just let me bring the wine for everyone, and I promise to bring a couple bottles of Woodbridge Merlot so that the aunts who think that wine-is-not-wine-unless-it-has-ice-in-it will have something to drink."  She finally relented.
So I am bringing:
2004 Landmark "Lorenzo" Chardonnay
2004 Sea Smoke "Southing" Pinot Noir
2004 Chasseur "Joyce" Pinot Noir
1999 Dominus
2002 Match "Butterdragon" Cabernet
2004 Allegrini "Palazzo della Torre" Corvina
And a couple of bottles of stuff that was gifted to me over the past couple of months that I won't drink, but will satisfy the "I'll have whatever's open" crowd, including but not limited to the aforementioned Woodbridge Merlot (vintage unknown, but the ice cubes that will be added to it are from this past week).
My insistence breaks every rule of guest etiquette, but I am long past the point of caring. | |
