The other thread was huge so I thought I would start a new one.  The previous one is

here for reference.

What is your current cellar composition?  Are you happy with the results?  What would you change?

By country

France -- 54%
USA -- 26%
Italy -- 13%
Other (Germany, Australia, Spain) -- 7%

I'm pretty happy with the results.  The only changes I see will be Italy taking share from the USA.  France encompasses my favorite wine regions - Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhone and Bordeaux (mostly for the sweet wines).  With an upcoming trip to Piedmont I think there may be some additions in that region.

By varietal

Pinot Noir is king in our cellar at 24%.  If you group Red Bordeaux and Cab together it is 17%.  This is higher than I want to have but some cellar thinning has helped.

What can I say but it's a rainy day here...

My regional distribution is:

USA 52%; France 36%; Italy 4%; Australia 3%; Germany 2%

and looking at that list, there is too much Italian and not enough German.

Pinot Noir makes up 24% which is fine, since I tend to drink and enjoy more Pinot Noir than any other varietal. Bordeaux and Cabs make up 26%, but after my cellar thinning project, the Bordeaux will go way down. Rhone and Syrah make up another 20% which seems about right.

I call foul on this one!  The whole beauty of the thread is that you can track changes in cellar composition over time.  That is lost if you start a new thread.Â

Winetex, mine is very similar to yours:

France 55%
USA 19%
Italy 17%
Others (mostly Spain, Germany, Portugal) 9%

Burgundy is the biggest region as it is 30% of my cellar.

Dave, I added a link to the previous thread for reference. Some people have trouble loading the very large threads in a timely manner.

Neat, thanks.  Is this (loading multi-page threads) actually a problem for anyone?   If yes, we should start breaking down the "What are you Buying" "What are you Drinking" threads at mid-month.  They are always at least twice as long as threads like the "Cellar Composition" thread.  Now if you are like me and like to see your name at the start of a thread, I understand completely!

A simple exercise these days:

By country:

France 79%

USA 21%

By varietal:

pinot noir 78%
riesling/pinot gris 11%

And that's not counting the 4 cases of '05 red burgs recently ordered but waiting for confirmation.

Some changes - France is on the rise due to 05 Burgundies. Currently I am buying few Cabs (esp. from Napa) and have slowed domestic Pinot Noir purchases. I don't see this changing much even when the Fall mailers come out.

When I look at it by varietal I still see way too many Bdx blends and cabs (total of 17%) that is pretty static since they are 2000 Bdx. Pinot Noir is still king.

France 56.19% ^^
USA 23.70% vv
Italy 13.44% ^^
Other (Germany, Spain, etc.) - 6.67% vv
