Parker is no help here, with a "?" in the maturity column. Bern's has a bottle on the list and a non-hateful price (less than $400). I'm just wondering if you all think it's worth the risk.

Why put your trust in Parker when it comes to ageing potential?
If you haven't already, check out Château Figeac's own homepage and their vintage guide. Seems that 1949 is still quite enjoyable. And for a not to great price. Fine & Rare wines in London charges €487 for it.
I hope it's already yours.

I forgot that the fine & rare homepage's pricing is in pounds!!!! Not in euro. That would make about $960 for a bottle 1949 Figeac.

That makes your offer look like a bargain.

Does Berns raise their prices dramatically over time? I remember ordering a '55 La Mission there in the 90's that is still one of MWOAL (my wine of a lifetime). It was $350 and I wish I had bought them out.

Since I have the list right in front of me...

...the '55 is no longer on the menu. There is a '53 @ $725, and a mag of '62 @ $799.

I'm not knowledgible enough to know the differences between the two vintages but I was fortunate enough to have a 1955 Figeac a couple of years ago at an offline and it was incredible. As a matter of fact, it was that experience that made me say to myself," aha, so this is what aged bordeaux is all about!" I've been hooked ever since.
