Let's hear 'em! My first of 2007 was a Costanti 2001 Rosso di Montalcino last night.

Another interesting topic of discussion.

Since I'm a newb and all, perhaps I can buy one of your suspect bottles so that I may experience the taste and flavor of a "corked bottle".

I cannot say if I've had one to date. Is it typically found within a particular sequence of bottling (improper) which is common among case purchases, or is a purely random occurance.

Is it related to poor quality control in the manufacturing process? In another words is it more likely in a "cheaper" quality or cheaper price of wines?

Inquiring minds want to know. And also (strange as it may sound), but want to buy a new, unopened bottle, that is known, or highly suspect of being corked.

Hey VN,

The bad bottle I had last night went down the drain.
Next time (which hopefully won't be anytime soon), I'll save it and send it your way.
My guess would be that corked wines are "purely random occurance" and they may affect top quality wines and not just the cheaper priced ones.

NO, it is not related to cheaper quality wine. It is related to tainted corks. I've found in various wine-tasting groups that it is also HIGHLY indivdual...we think there's a genetic basis for a person's TCA sensitivity.
I get an instant visual from a classically worked wine. Picture yourself smelling an old, old Monopoly game board that you found in the musty old basement of a farmhouse that's getting ready to be levelled. THAT'S corked!

Both on the same night...at least someone else brought the Masseto.

I am thinking it was not corked. I have yet to expereince a corked wine that resolved itself. Thoughts?

Pete, I was thinking the same thing. Some wines seem to need some time once opened to "put themselves back together".
