| | Same here. I bought extremely heavy into 2000 Bordeaux then turned around and sold most of them to winebid when my tastes changed to pinot. So, what do I do... I buy heavy into 2002 Burgundy and pray that my tastes don't steer back to Cabernet. I'll not be buying as heavy into 2005 Burgundy except for a few lower level, early drinking wines. | | | |

| By necessity, I am flying a little blind here. I have had a fair amount of Burgundies over the past year and a half, but almost none before. There is a progression theory that I ascribe to (try village level wines from various producers to get a sense of house style), but there isn't a lot of time to do that in most cases. I have been carefully reading reviews from Alan Meadows, John Gilman and Claude Kolm and trying to make informed choices. Burghound certainly seems to drive the PC market! Highly rated wines sell out in 30 minutes or less it seems. The good news is that there will be second chances on most wines.
I put my latest 2005 purchases in the same category as my Hospices de Nuits and Hospices de Beaune auction purchases. I hope that they turn out well, but I am buying sight unseen. My guess is that if you are patient, the 2005 Burgundies will be a welcome addition to your cellar. I have had a lot of 1982 and 1970 Bordeaux in the past couple of years and would be thrilled to any of them in my cellar. My 1986 Bordeaux purchases would have been a huge mistake if I had wanted to drink them over the last 20 years. In 5 years or so I expect that I'll be thrilled to have all of them as well. | | | |

2005 prieur musingy $300-in 05 i guess this will be the poor man's musigny since i am afraid most of the others will be well north of $450-500.
2005 michel ecard savigny-les-beaune serpentieres $34.66 tasted one and it is an excellent wine and value.

| A case of 2005 Laurent Marsannay Clos du Roi at $15 from PC - Tanzer made me do it. Even if this wine turns out to be at the low end of his scoring range (88-91), I'll have a rarity in the wine world - a decent low cost cellar defender that also happens to be a red burgundy.

| | I'd look at the Roty Marsannay's as well. A bit more pricey, usually $20-$30, but pretty good, even in a vintage like 00 and 01 they were decent wines. Stef usually picks up 3-4 bottles each vintage. | |

| There are a couple of interesting wines at Premier Cru right now - some actually in stock. I fell off the non-wine buying wagon so take a look if you are interested in 2005 Burgundies. These are 2005 Boillot wines that are OK priced for the quality as noted by the Tanzer scores. Henri Boillot makes the wines under his father's name Jean Boillot and Fils at Volnay.ÂIt's one of those Burgundy family deals.
