Has anyone been biting on the 2005 Burgundy futures (pre-arrivals, whatever you want to call them). Premier Cru sent out another email today with some interesting producers. With no professional reviews it's kind of a crap shoot right now but I'm buying a few from producers I like. The prices are all over the place from extreme to reasonable. And man that Laurent makes a bunch of different wines. People have already entered some purchases in CellarTracker so I know I'm not alone. no affiliation just a pretty big list of wines Thus far I've only bought the Jadot Bonnes Mares. Waiting for more guidance before I explore further.

I picked up some Pousse d'Or a few weeks ago at a slightly lower price point (also from PC). Haven't bought anything else though as the producers I target haven't been pre-sold yet. Wake me up when Mugnier, Roumier, D'Angerville, Fourrier etc start rolling in.

Joblot only so far. We'll see whether any must have wines get offered to me at a price I can stomach. Otherwise, I'll just sit back and wait for my 2002s to mature.

I decided that I couldn't wait any longer on 2 of the Drouhins and the Lambrays. The nice thing about PC though is that they have a way of restocking.

I broke down for a few bottles of 2005 Fevre Chablis (Les Clos and Les Preuses). Will hold off again until I see some more of my favorite producers released on pre-arrival...

With the release of Burghound's 2005 issue it is a good time to resurrect this thread. The good news is that 2005 is billed as a vintage with great wines from top to bottom ("Arguably the Best Vintage in a Generation"). I intend to shift a large percentage of my wine buying budget to 2005 Burgundies over the next few years for fear that this may be my last chance (when the next Vintage of the Century rolls around 3 years from now I will be 50!). It will be interesting to see whether these pre-release prices will hold or whether the next tranches will be cheaper. There are a lot of Burgundy aficionados on the Parker board, but most of them won't even discuss good wines for fear they will disappear from the marketplace (I can understand not discussing source of supply). People on this Board are very willing to share information, but there seem to be fewer Burgundy lovers. Here is what I've bought so far. Criticism appreciated. I saw the 2005 d'Angervilles come through on the RSS feed earlier in the week. I wanted to buy some Clos de Ducs, but they sold out within minutes. I think that things will get worse now that the Burghound issue is out. A lot of buyers were on the fence waiting for the scores.

so far just 2005 fevre chablis les clos 2005 fevre chablis les preuses 2005 jadot bonnes mares 2005 jadot gevrey chambertin csj 2005 jadot chambertin clos de beze i am not overly concerned about availabilty. unless you are only seeking the trophies, there will be an abundance of excellent wines. even producers who do do not usually score high with meadows did so in 2005.

Agreed. "Quite simply the best top to bottom vintage I have ever seen, period, full stop." Those are pretty strong words. I'll likely buy some top level premier crus and grand crus but don't have the sense of urgency I've felt in the past thanks to the large amount (for me) of upper level 2002 and prior vintage purchases I made. So many of my purchases will be more moderately priced red burgs to satisfy my habit while my prior vintage grand crus and I age together. And frankly, with the prices many of these 2005s are sporting, I'll spend more of my time searching for those older high quality burgs that appear on the market from time to time. So...., here are my only purchases so far: 12 Joblot Givry Pied de Chaume 6 F Magnien Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes Now, of course, I reserve the right to make an impulse purchase completely inconsistent with these comments as soon as an appealing email offer comes in.

Buying Burgundy based on a critics barrels scores is one of the biggest leaps of faith in wine acquisition. If you've spent any time in the cold damp cellars of the Cote d'Or tasting from barrels, you know how much variation there is from barrel to barrel. And we all know that vintners let the critics taste from any barrel of the critics choosing.......not. I may pay more but I prefer to buy Burgundy based on what I taste from bottle. Caveat emptor.
