| So I'm at a charity auction on Friday night and approach the bar for a drink. I ask the bartender what red wine they were pouring and to no surprise, it Blackstone Merlot (the Bud of wine imo). I mutter under my breath and ask for a glass. Then, a "gentelman" in line behind me asks if I would like some of his wine, he brought the "good stuff". I appreciate his gesture and I'm curious as to what he brought. Upon arriving at his table, I see that he has a bottle of a non-descript 2001 Rully. As he pours my glass, I thank him for the Burgundy. The guy looks at me funny and says, "Son, this isn't a Burgundy....It's French Pinot Noir!" I thanked him for the glass and just grinned as I walked back to my table.
At the same auction, gift basked with a bottle each of Big House Red and Big House White sold for $60....b/c it was in a "pretty" basket. I picked up a gift bag that had a Screwpull opener, wire rack, one bottle of '02 Pride Mountain Top Merlot, and a bottle of '03 Far Niente Chard for $100. | | | |
