| | You don't even have to think about this one. Cellartracker is the best and it keeps getting better. | | | |

CellarTracker is the only way to go.
One doesn't have to worry about loosing one's inventory data at the same time as one may loose their wine... like in a devastating hurricane or fire.

David,
Whilst this is true, in all honesty I have never "worried" about losing my collection, let alone "worried" about losing the data too.
I use a program called The RB's Cellar Master. Its free, it's a great program, I have complete control and it resides on my PC; which to me is an advanatge as I don't have to "worry" about the information being somewhere else. | | Cheers Ric www.torbwine.com

CellarTracker let's you download the data to Excel anytime you want, just FYI. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| Torb,
Didn't your country have a huge terrible prarrie fire a couple of years ago?
Do you live in a metal and concrete house? Are your wine racks all metal?
I'm sorry. I shouldn't be flip.
I will say that I agree, I don't worry about losing my collection. But when you plan you have to consider that there could be a disaster of some kind. I don't obsess over it but fire is something that happens. And lord knows we're just waiting for the next big quake. My stuff is insured but without an inventory I am pretty much up the creek.

| CT for me.
Spent a few days last week switching coolers etc. Took very little time to edit unit #'s and rack locations for 300 bottles.

| | I have to get around to bulk uploading to CT someday. The process of "send Eric your excel spreadsheet" is not a very scalable solution... | | | |

David,
We have bad bush fires every year; there was one in Victoria that started around Christmas that is now finally just out. I live in the country but my wine is located in town. As far my house being wiped out by a bush fire, I would have an infinitely greater chance of winning the lottery. About 600 people a year die on the roads in my state (due in no small part to very tough drink driving laws); thanks to great fire fighting less houses than that are destroyed by all natural disasters including electrical faults. I don't worry about being killed in a car smash but as the chances of that are far greater than losing my wine collection; perhaps I should. | | Cheers Ric www.torbwine.com

| Torb, perhaps I misunderstand, or perhaps I'm missing out on some sarcasm... but why would 600 people a year die due to tough drinking laws?
I'm not familiar with Australia. Is drinking & driving very common there?

how?
it doesn't take too long, but it'd take me a while to do 300 bottles unless there were lots of multiple bottles of the same wine going to the same location.....? | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

Hi Randy,
(Warning thread drift. )
Sorry, I can see how you would be confused. About 25 years ago, the road toll in NSW was close to 1100 a year and they brought in a 0.08 driving limit and random breath testing to support it. After a few years the legal blood alchol level dropped to 0.05; and more recently, for those on P Plates (people who have had their licences for less than 3 years) the level is now zero.
So despite the number of cars on the roads probably doubling in that period, the road toll has halved. There are other campaigns and factors that also helped, but the DUI laws have been the major contributor to the drop. | | Cheers Ric www.torbwine.com

| another unequivical vote for CellarTracker!
I tried about a dozen cellar software options before finding CT and I have been using it ever since. As many have said, it keeps getting better all the time.
