So, what have people heard. I think these are supposed to be coming out soon. Any news, potential, ratings, etc...? 2002 is supposed to be very good down under, are MP Wines going to capitalize? Should 1 load up, & not miss the boat this time?

I plan to load up (or at least as much as I can...)

I have not gotten a definitive date yet, but I have been told late Spring for my area. There's actually a thread going over on the WS forums where King Of Hearts indicated that the wines may be hitting the shelves as early as next week.

production on the 2002 portfolio will be over 40000 cases. 2001 was over 30000 cases. at least that is what they admit.
i am sure mr. parker will be given the best lots after sparky pre-tastes everything. expect big ratings, but i would suspect the amount of cases will be closer to 50000 than 40000. the secondary market for these wines is already beginning to cool off.

Word in these parts is they could be on the shelves in the next week. Question asked twice with consistent answer.

The secondary market is cooling off because people have begun to taste the wines. Parker considerably overrates the lot of them. The pre-selection process further harms the credibility of Parker's impressions.

Personally, I don't really care what Parker's ratings were.
They only tend to skew my own judgment.
From my own experience, the 2001 suite of MP wines are all good quality, mostly excellent QPR wines, IMHO.
The basic MP shiraz has gotten better each time I've tried it over the past 8 months.
I have every intention of picking up a number of the 2002 offering.
If I get lucky 2 years in a row, I'll be a happy camper (I mean wino).

Will the prices hold for the 2002s?

And, may be the auction prices dropped for these because the wine-auction prices dropped in-general (i.e. Guigal is now going for about $35.00-$40.00). That's all.

auction prices in general have dropped. the guigal and philips are short turn run ups, almost like a stock moving up. you have to know when to unload them. once the frenzy dies down, pricing returns to more normal levels.

also, jones is correct. once enough people taste these wines, they realize the wines are over rated.
now that both the 2000 guigal cdp and 2002 mp's will be out,
people will have an option.

Funny.
I bid regularly on winebid, and I believe that prices are up over what they were 3-6 months ago.
I use a few wines as benchmarks, and wines that were going for $40-$50 are now in the $50-$65 range (notably Kistler chard and Mondavi Reserve cabs for specific years). Maybe just a glitch, but time will tell.

I think ojeffso is referring to (and I know I am referring to) the traditional wine auction market - the British auction houses, Butterfields, Acker and the like. Winebid is a considerably different venue.

yes. prices on winebid depend on how many bottles of wine are being auctioned that week.

Lately, I am selling on AM&C & Wine Commune. Both, went down. And, on WC, a lot of auctions close with no bids lately. Including mine.

I received the same email as well. For those who are mathematically challenged, the case price works out to $13.99 per bottle - on par with pricing for the 2001s.

I just got off the phone, this morning, with the grateful palate in California. The latest update on the 02 MP wines is that they will not be here until August now. That scares me a little because shipping wine in August anywhere is dangerous. The 02 Integrity should be as good as the 01 but you won’t see that until next year.

When I got hoem from work last night there was a message from the Grateful Palate telling me that I have been allocated (2) 2001 Integrity. I called this morning to arrange for delivery. The woman told me that ALL of the 2002's will arrive together in "about a month". I stated that many months ago when I called to be placed on the 2001 Integrity list I was told that the 2002 Integrity list had not been opened yet. TODAY I was told there is going to be 2002 Integrity, that the list is CURRENTLY OPEN, and how many bottles would I like. I asked if there was a limit and she said wethat if I ask for 12 I may only get 10. I am not into flipping so I asked for 6. If you want 2002 Integrity you flippers call and ask for 12 today. There seemed to be no limit from the person I spoke with.

I second LCC - try to taste it before you buy it- I guess you could always sign up and cancel if you don't like it in a tasting.
