Hi all,
I was looking to purchase a 1975 Bordeaux and I was able to find a 1975 Palmer for sale. I read that this is a slow evolving vintage - do you think that the Palmer would be ready for consumption this year?

If anyone has any experience with this particular wine, your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

When the 1975 Bordeaux were released, La Mission Haut Brion was almosty universally acclaimed as the second wine of the vintage after Petrus. Close on its heels was the Palmer. I am not a fan of Chateau Palmer, having found the hailed 1959 and others not worthy of their praise when stacked up against the First Growths. The 1975 should be a great wine and almost certainly ready to drink. I think only the Petrus and maybe a very few of the longest lived Pauillacs and St. Estephes needed any further age. I hope you'll post tasting notes on it.

iirc wasn't 1975 one of those vintages that didn't live up to the hype over the years, or was it 1978?

Thanks for the help Board-O. I also heard that the Petrus is amazing, but it's unfortunately a little out of my price range. I will definitely post tasting notes once I open the bottle, around mid-year.

The Petrus is out of my price range also. Fortunately, I bought 6 of them in 1978. I drabbed one a few years ago and am forcing myself to be patient. Parker's drinking window starts in 2006.

I drank a 1975 Palmer about 2 years ago. I paid very little for it at the time, put a case on the shelf and took the last btl as I commonly do with interesting wines. Great great wine for the money. Held up very well with age.
