anthony, last Summer (2003) we tasted a bunch of them from barrel. Here are my ranges of scores for each winery's 2002 reds:

Quilceda Creek: 87-94, with the average being about 91

Mathews: 89-92, not counting the mediocre barrel of Petit Verdot

JM: 91

Januik, Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia, Wineglass, Sageland, Columbia Crest, Hinzerling, Hogue, Willow Crest, Claar: no 2002s tasted

Portteus: 83-87

Cascade Cliffs: 86-92

Sineann (Yes, I know they're in Oregon, but I'm just including their wines made from Washington vineyards. No Pinot Noir is included.): No numerical scores were given, but the wines were uniformly excellent, mostly in the 92 point range.

Based on what I tasted, the 2001 vintage seems better to me than the 2002.

I barrel tasted the 03 Quilceda various lots last Febuary and gotta say that they were the best barrel samples I have ever tasted. Look for the 03 to be at least as good if not better than the 99, 01 & 02.

Cheers,
Fox

03 qc is going to be better than 01 and 02? maybe they have 3 digits in their future. just another reason i am going to be passing on more 01 cali cabs. in 2001 i bought 18 750's and 3 mags of qc. i think in 02 i am going to buy 24 750's and 6 mags, if not more. what a great wine and i still can't believe the pricing.

Haha. We're on the edge of the crater waiting for the fireworks.

We crushed 10 tons of CS and CF yesterday, looking good. Half way through mark. Trying to beat the eruption.

I'd heard about the series of minor quakes. I wonder if that sucker'll blow. Yikes!

She's gonna blow any day now. If that day had been yesterday, Oregon would have been the unfortunate recipient of the debris. Or fortunate, if you factor in the future fertility of the land from the fallout.

Anyone have an idea on how long it takes to get on the Quilceda mailing list? This winery is absolutely on fire. '01 is now rated 98 from WA and the '02 is presently rated at 97-100. Wow.I know this is old news to most of you. Im just wondering when I should expect to be on the mailing list.I think I have been on the waiting list for 5 months.

You can still find the '01 retail in Seattle. Gotta look under the right rocks and ask the right questions.
