Farr Vintners (UK) has posted their thoughts on the wines of the 2003 Bordeaux vintage. Of all the glowing reviews they have written about the wines of Pauillac, St. Estephe, and St. Julien - I had to share some of the humorous ones --- mostly from St. Emilion. The wine names are below the quotes:
"This is going to be a very controversial wine as it tastes more like Vintage Port than Saint Emilion. Overconcentrated and unbalanced. This is a slightly sticky mixture of chocolate, jam and cream. A mouse could walk across the top of it. We hated it. Robert Parker will probably love it. This is not what 2003 Bordeaux is about.
--- Beausejour Duffau ----
"This, on the other hand, is absolutely hideous. Tastes like Doctor Pepper without the bubbles. A tiny micro-cuvee that might well sell for over 1000 GBP per case. Unbelievable.
---- Bellevue Mondotte ----
"This is one of the worst examples of over-extracted, late picked, over-oaked and out-of-balance wines that we tasted on the right bank this year. Bananas on the nose with jam on the palate. In a low acidity vintage this kind of over-the-top winemaking just doesn't work. Les Grande Murailles and Cote de Baleau were similar."
--- Clos St. Martin ----
"Yes, it's another Michel Rolland-advised late-picked new-world-style fruit bomb with powerful extraction, low acidity and no balance."
--- Faugeres ---
"Another black colored monster that is impressive to look at but will be hard to drink."
--- La Couspade ---

the brits would probably have been happy if they had added some water to the barrels to help dilute the ripe fruit. then again, maybe they should have enlisted tim mondavi to show them how to turn ripe fruit into non descript wine.
