| In general, 2000 was a terrible year for cabernet fans in Napa. However, this is one of the few to exceptions to the rule. This wine is clean, elegant, loaded with fruit but with an excellent structure. The flavors include creme de cassis, graphite, and briar. The tannins pucker up your mouth, but the finish goes a very long way. This wine should be at its best in the next 3-4 years. Hands off for another year to give it time.
I'm going to look into buying more of this. Its that good. I'd rate it 92+.

Good luck locating these. Not going to be easy. And, I believe they are sold out.

| Jones has a south facing vineyard and has no trouble getting ripe. They were a great '98 as well as a great '00.
I'll pass on your comment about '00 being terrible...

| There was a very important caveat: "IN GENERAL". I stand by the statement. However, excellent vineyards and winemakers can produce miracles even under exceptionally challenging circumstances.
I'm looking forward to trying the Bressler 2000 in order to decide for myself how successful you've been

| | I think they did an amazing job in 98 and 00 being sub-par vintages in the valley. Kudos to the Jones crew | | "Everyday is worthy of a glass of sparkling wine" - Andrea Immer MS | |

| | Yep, I agree. The 98 Jones is a very good bottle (especially fo that vintage). As a matter of fact, it's one of my 98 favs. | | | |

But hasn't there been some disagreement on how the '98 will age?

| I don't remember one David but that does not mean there wasn't some dispute.
The 98 is the best Jones Family to consume right now imo. I would not touch the 2000, 1999, or 1997 at the present time (although recent 97s are showing some signs of reemerging). Four years post vintage is generally not a good time to pull the cork on a Jones Family Cabernet Sauvignon imo. If you do the wine needs a lot of airtime (but that's a poor substitute imo).

| | JWN1, in your opinion, when would be a good time to pop my first 2000? How about the 3 Sisters as well? | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| I would try my first bottle of 2000 in 2007.
The 2000 The Sisters can be drunk now after one hour in the decanter (it really needs that decanting time).

This statement by Jones shocks me. *nudge nudge, poke poke* hehehe
Thanks for the drinking age notes.. I'll stuff my three bottles in the back of the cellar. | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

| | It is tough to do but the 2000 was considerably better over a year ago and needs time to reemerge. If you don't drink one right after release then you need to let the wine sit for at least five years. When the 2001s are released then my advice would be to drink one right away and then cellar the rest of them until 2010 or so. | | | |

| | WHat is the drinking window for the 97 Jones Family currently since it is coming out again? In your opinion, is this wine going to be better in the next few years? | | | |

| | The 97 will definitely improve. I would try and wait at least two more years before trying another bottle. | | | |

| | Jones, thanks for the update. I have 4 bottles of the 97 which I have never tasted. Drank all of my 98's which were really good. Havn't touched the 99's or 00's. Look forward to the 01's. | | | |

| The 2001 is the best Jones Family to be bottled but I expect that the 2002 will be better. Try one of the 2001s a couple of weeks after you get it so you can see how it is young.
When you do finally taste the 97 let us know what you think.

| Tried my first '00 tonight just because, well it just jumped into my hands.
This is clearly one of the best wines of the vintage, imho. Lots of spice, fruit and backbone. Firm mostly ripe tannins. Remarkably balanced, youthful and ageworthy (I haven't said that about many '00s -haven't tried Bressler yet). Overall, a classy and classically structured wine reminding me of a great ripe-year St. Estephe.
Impressive. Will enjoy seeing how this evolves.
