Opened and allowed 45 minutes breathing time. Dark purple. Dark cherry, cassis, tobacco leaf and cedar on the nose. Medium to full bodied. Ripe cherry, currant, and herbs on the palate. Really opened through the evening, hints of violet and spice appearing on the nose. Complex herbaceous notes of mint, thai basil & fresh dill complemented the evolving nose. Even got hints of brown sugar and vanilla. Tannins are slightly chunky but considering this is an '03 they're actually rather tame. Classic Napa Cab.
Tremendous value at the $30.00 price I paid, wish I had bought more than 3 bottles as I've since found out this is unfortunately a small production wine. 2004 vintage will be a buy, if only to see that the success seen in 2003 may be repeated. Vine 92 |
