Clear medium red to a purplish transparent rim.  Light to medium nose of spice and black cherries, touch of alcohol which integrated after a half hour.  Medium to light concentration, but good balance.  This is closing down...not as fruity as a bottle I had two months ago.  Shortish finish.  Hold another year or two.

What a coincidence, I had this last night. It was enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. If pressed, I'd put it in the 87-88 pt range. I'm not convinced this will improve with time. As you mention, the finish was abrupt.

Day 2 was a different animal.  I had half a bottle left and I vacuvined it.  Ripe, round full flavored, like cranberry juice with a hint of black cherry, and a bit of alcohol.  The fact that it was so changed means to me that I should wait at least another year to open another one.   It's not often I enjoy a wine more on the second day, but this was the case here.  Not complex, still the short finish, but very tasty.

Perhaps decanting would help if one would like to drink this sooner.

Strong cherry and vanilla notes, with some pomegrante. Medium finish. I found this extremely well balanced. Not a big fruit bomb, but very soft and enjoyable. Mrs. Ormbee loved also, and demanded that I never leave this list.

Moderate nose of candied red fruits, black cherry and blackberry, smoke and baking spice. Full body, moderate complexity, low acidity and ripe tannin. Dry candied fruits, vanillin and baking spice with brown sugar. 84pts.

2005 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (7/27/2008)
WIML90

Tasted July 27, 2008.

Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of black cherries, black berries, raspberries, florals and white pepper. Flavors of red currants, cherries and berries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink or hold. Probably needs a decant before serving now. (90 pts.)

Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

Is KB still the killer QPR that it used to be reffered to as?

Not at their current prices. The SVDs have gone from around $50 to $68 in 2 vintages.

While there are folks who are dumping their KBs on winecommune, etc., here in the DC area the Sonoma Coast and RRV are going for about $100 retail, if you can find it at all.

We had a bottle with dinner at New Heights a couple of days ago with a couple of my sisters.  Opened but not decanted and let sit for about 45 minutes.  Nice nose, cherrys and some spice.  Lots of black cherry, nutmeg and a touch of licorice on the palate.  Just the right amount of oak.  Fairly long yet focused finish.  Very much appreciated by all at dinner, none who are really into wine except maybe Jake.  My sisters loved it.  93 pts.

$52, Mailing List

My TNs are similar to wineismylife. A fine bottle of wine though I prefer it @ the $28 we used to pay for it. That was a great price for this wine. Today, it is pushin' it. WS rated it a 91, that's about right. But, I will go with 90 tonight. Back in the day, when this wine was $25.00, I thought it was a real "bargain". Not so much any more. Drink Or Hold. I do hope that the KB crew holds the line on prices...

Not likely, unfortunately. With the SVDs costing $10 more than last year, I don't have a lot of hope
that they'll hold the line on anything.
