2006 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Rosé - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (4/27/2007)
WIML87,PURPLE85,NOWA,NOWS

Tasted April 27, 2007 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentus Weiss Wein glass. Rose petal colored in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of raspberries, cherries and red berries. Flavors of strawberries, raspberries and sweet red berries. Light acidity and body; almost flabby. Nice rose but a step or two behind the 2005 version. Drink now. (87 pts.)

Had this last night, as well. I had a very similar experience, but with the strawberry flavor being much more pronounced. As noted in the "What are you drinking" section, I actually had a friend ask if they mixed strawberry juice in with the wine to give it flavor and color. I enjoyed the 05 more, but this is still a fantastic drink while running the grill on a hot day.

I had this last week with a similar experience, although I probably would have scored it an 88 or maybe even an 89.  It also had lots of acidity.  The wine seemed to take about 2-3 hours of bottle air to open.  It was better at the VC Anniversary Dinner at the Freeman property...

2006 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Rosé - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (4/29/2007)
No decant. Sweet strawberries and light cream on the bright and expressive nose, carry through on the palate along with a touch of citrus. Soft and round with good acidity, this has a some weight for a Rose. Picks up cinnamon spice and additional acidity towards the fine finish. (88 pts.)

Although not bracing, this definitely has noticeable acidity, albeit less than that of a lot of Rose. This was much better and the acidity more prominent at 65+ temps.

Note: the first bottle I tasted was from my cellar. This bottle was from a fellow forum member's cellar.

Tasted May 28, 2007 at and offline. Opened and served immediately. Rose petal colored in the glass, slightly cloudy looking towards center. Light nose of raspberries, strawberries and a bit of dustiness towards the finish. Somewhat earthy flavors of Bing cherries strawberries and raspberries. Light acidity and body. Once again seem flabby to me. As the pros like to say “tasted twice with consistent notes”. Drink now. (87 pts.)

I'd put this more in the 84-85 range; can't disagree with the description much, but it just did not ring my bell. Not sure if I will buy the rose next year.

It's good to have something to serve the non-winos. They dig it.

I've tried 2 bottles so far, and neither of them is close to the 05. Low acidity to my palate. It tastes more like fruit juice (with alcohol added, like we did in college!) than wine. I'm hoping for a little improvement over the nex t couple of months, but I'm not counting on it.

the one had was ok, but nothing special. definitely a novelty though and it was nice by the pool. it was better a couple of hours in, so your idea may work nicely....

I had this the other night at a tasting along with the '05 KB, '05 Pax, '06 Pax and the '06 Core.  The '06 KB would have finished last, but for the '05 Pax, which was simply horrid.  I'd say that 84-85 is about right.

The 06 Pax and the '05 KB were pretty darn good.  The Core was a different style, but also very good.

the Core is Tempranillo centered and finished off with Rhone varietels, which is probably a big contributor to the difference in style. I am halfway through a case of it. i would put it above the 06 KB, haven't had the 05 KB. I would have to retaste the Kutch to place it into the order. i looked up the Pax and the website says that the 05 is "Mostly Syrah with a good dose of Grenache ".

06 Core Rose
79% tempranillo
11% Grenache
9% Mourvedre
1% syrah

Alex, thanks for the information.  I had thought that it was 100% tempranillo.  The guy I was sitting next to at the tasting is a distributor for Core in the Virginia/DC area.  If all goes well, we should be able to buy it locally.

I think of Hans and Frank when I see the "flabby" descriptor. And girlie men.

Only girlie men drink flabby rose! Give me a good $10 rose from Provence - bright, juicy and just summer in a glass.
