| The flavors in this wine were so unusual that it took us 15 minutes or so to nail down what we thought they were - it tasted sort of citrus but with stone fruit. Finally Davetex said "pomegranate"and there it was.
This bottle was too expensive for what it delivered last night. That said there is potential for improvement considering Littorai's track record for their Pinots. The remaining bottles are heading to offsite storage for a long nap.
- 2004 Littorai Pinot Noir One Acre - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (4/18/2007)
Dark clear garnet in color; Muted spicy black pepper on the nose leading into pomegranate and slightly chalky flavors. This is a very unusual presentation for Cali Pinot, maybe because of its youth. The pomegranate aromas and flavors were on the citrus side with some Asian spices. It gave me the impression of a cool weather site. It had adequate acidity and tannins to improve with aging. [~$70 on release; Probably will wait 2 years for the next bottle] (90 pts.)

| | Thanks for the note. We opened a bottle of this at a DC Crü dinner at Dino last month and I thought it was great. No formal notes, but I'll agree with some of the thoughts on 'unusual flavors'. I liked them and I could see this improving with more time. I'm planning on holding mine as well for a few years to see how it develops. | |

| Does the bottle tell where the vineyard is or who farms it? I seem to remember that "one acre" is actually a block in the the savoy vineyard. | |

| One Acre is from a block in the hillside vineyard around Rich Savoy's house (his original vineyard). The 2004 is the last vintage before they replanted the vineyard because the vines succumbed to phylloxera (there wasn't any 2003 One Acre, the small amount of fruit went into the 2003 Les Larmes appellation blend). The main Savoy vineyard is down in the valley, right off Highway 128.

Red cherries, sweet cinnamon, tree bark and spices on the nose. Fleshy mid-palate with red fruits and spices on the finish. An understated wine on the palate, yet aromatically it seems like it expands into another dimension with great thrust. Delicious and accessible but should continue to improve. (92 pts.)
