Could not resist purchasing several bottles locally at $32, which is a great price for good pinot...popped a bottle same night to see if it was worth the hype...

Deep purple color with glorious nose of rasberries, cotton candy, cola and spice. On the palate, rich, thick black fruit with subtle notes spice and a hint of oak. The finish was nice with the cola coming through, but could use a little more acid to send it to the next level. Solid 94pts in my book.

Forget about the price...this is about as good as new world pinot gets if this style floats your boat like it does mine. Although from RRV, stylistically, it reminded me of the 2004 Pisoni Estate pinot I had a few weeks back. I am not sure how he does it, but this is very special pinot at an entry level price. Drinking great now with only upside....delicious!!

I was thinking 94 points before searching for any notes on this. Excellent pinot and excellent price, could say that about Steve Hansel's wines across the board.

I'm still wondering about how poorly the Hansel wines showed when we tasted them at a dinner.

Hansel Dinner and Tasting

Maybe it was travel shock or something but the wines just weren't that good on that night.  Our entire table agreed on that and found it surprising.  I'm glad it was better for you because the wines are decently priced.

Popped one a few nights back...I agree with Winetex. These were highly rated, but they are on the plummy side. Decent balance, very good concentration, medium finish. Overall a nice package, but not in the elegent burgundy framework. Delicious to drink now, the half of the bottle left until the next day (Vacuvin) was decidedly less interesting. Drink up.

As you can tell from the note above, these are on the fast track. A full flavored wine that is showing very well now, with plum, raspberry jam and tea flavors, with a touch of apricot which I don't particularly care for, very concentrated and a good finish. I think this is a good value, lest we forget the pinots of the 80s and 90s.  The whites get better ratings, but the reds are solid perfomers as well. 89 "ol saut" points, likely higher for others.

Tonight my bottle was more about a 90 pointer. Now I want to open another soon to check for bottle variation. I did not think this was short lived last Summer.

Tonight, mm92.5 points Wish I had more but alas, I am out. That's why there is Winebid though.
