Tasted as part of WSJTC dinner Oct. 2002

'00 Clos Pepe Santa Rita Hills PN-Nose is wonderfully perfumed, yet the palate didn't deliver as much. Others liked this more than I did. Still closed, but showing dried cherry, oak and mineral notes. Finish is shorter than A. jb Rating 89.

WINE B: '00 Clos Pepe Santa Rita Hills PN
I got hardly anything out of the nose on this one. I thought this wine was a good bit closed. There was a woodiness to this, with some charcoal and lucious plum. Tougher tannins than in Wine A, but well integrated. I had some flintiness dancing around in there, too.
TJ rating -- 90

This was also on the 10/19 LBI dinner tasting list....

I revisited this wine last night. A year has improved the wine. After being open for about 45 minutes, the wine showed lots of black cherry and lilac on the nose. Very expansive in the mouth, more black cherry, some strawberry overtones, toasty oak in the background, cassis and creme brulee. This wine seemed to sweeten as time went by. Finished moderate to long. Good balance. jb Rating 90.
