1984 Dunn "Napa" Cabernet

1984 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/29/2006) Medium garnet, red-brown rim. The nose isn't altogether bad, with leathery components and hints of mushroom, but it is marred by a candied element that I associate the over-the-hill California cabs. On the palate there is still a fair amount of fruit braced by muted tannins. The wine has a slightly astringent finish. I think that this wine has seen better days. Stored since release at 55 degrees. This is consistent with another '84 Dunn Napa tried earlier this week. The '84 Howell Mountain (92+) is much better than the Napa and doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast. I am going to save my HM's and drink my Napa's forthwith. (88 pts.)

This was served with pizza and Young Frankenstein. The 1984 Livingston "Moffet" tonight showed much better, sad to say. The good news is that I really liked the '84 Dunn Howell Mountain.
