After learning here that this was an early example of Helen Turley's winemaking, I took a chance for $50 on a bottle a buddy had bought at auction as part of a larger lot.
Having reservations about provenance and limited experience with aged Cali Cabs, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
No obvious bricking in the color, dark red right to the rim. Nose was muted after 45 minutes of decanting, no mustiness present. Flavor was dominated by black cherrys and dark chocolate. There was a certain flavor component that I have only ever noticed in the few older bottles I have tried. (Can bottle age be defined as a flavor?)
The fill was nearly perfect, I was concerned when the cork crumbled when I attempted to remove it, not from dryness but from moisture. It was stained nearly to the top. All in all a pleasant experience with an aged Cali Cab. The fruit was still present and the tannins were subdued but still in the background. I am not sure how much longer this would have lasted as it seemed to be at the end of it's lifespan. Tired, but not spent.

Well-stored bottles of this wine are great.
