In re-arranging my cellar recently, I discovered I still had two bottles of this wine remaining, though my cellar log indicated only one. Well, not being one to frown on good fortune, we had our next-to-the last bottle of it last night with a grilled prime, dry-aged ribeye.

This os one of my all-time favority BV GdLs. It has always seemed ready to drink and there has not been much change in the wine over the last twenty years. It still has that American milk bottle nose (a descriptor peculiar to me) and a great amount of ripe plum and berry flavors. This shows no signs of declining. I find it very similar to the 1979 Leoville Las Cases. It's got power and complexity, a wonderful bottle of wine. 94

I was able to taste this at an Atlanta off-line a couple of weeks ago. The color was amazing. By sight alone, I guessed it to be a late eighties or early nineties bottling. It was very impressive and has quite a bit of life left in it.

I think that the '82 was the last good BV GdL.

I thought the 1985 was excellent.

I worked my way through a case of the '85 over the last year. They were a major disappointment to me (85-88 point wines all).

Well, I've had it maybe three or four times and felt it was always about a 92 point wine. I bought mine at release and still have one left.

I bought mine at release too. I thought that with the '85 vintage and all that maybe, just maybe, they would turn out like the '70 BV. Oh well. They certainly weren't an out-and-out disaster like the 1985 William Hill Reserve.
