| 2001 Bonaccorsi Pinot Noir “Red Monkey”. Santa Maria Valley, California. $20.
Bonaccorsi is the head sommelier at Spago. Over the last few years, he has issued some wines under his own name. He is a dapper and gregarious individual and as a result I believe these wines have achieved a buzz that is not warranted by what is in the bottle. Light to medium red color. This wine has a big 90-point nose of dusky raspberry, cinnamon, and licorice. A 75-point wine in the mouth, the wine presents as very young with sour cherries and plenty of green stems. Drink now to 2005. 82 points.
