| syrah is definitely not my strong point as far as evaluation is concerned. with that caveat, i will give my impressions anyway. this wine has a wonderful nose of candied fruit with some hints of vanilla & spice. it is dark red to purple in color. it has a a medium/heavy mouthfeel that i like. no acidity at all it seems. this must be what is meant by flabby. tannins are virtually nonexistant. there is little or no real structure here. it is fruity & pleasant in its own way. i expected more complexity. 87 points & i can't really see this improving with age. | | | |

| 87 seems pretty high for a "flabby" wine. Last night, I had the Andrew Murray '00 Les Coteaux Syrah and it was the clear wine of the night over the '00 Paige 23 and the '01 Melville Estate Syrah.

| maybe so, jb. i am assuming this is what's meant by "flabby" judging from the context of its usage. after i posted this note, i finished the glass i was drinking & it seemed to develop some acidity. whether the steak i had for dinner had an effect initially or the fruit receded somewhat in the glass, i couldn't say. maybe both. i did pour half the bottle into one of my new 375ml storage units i got courtesy of brian loring , so i will likely revisit this wine tonight. as far as the 87 goes, i did like this wine & thought it was good, just not great & this style surprised me. | | | |

| | what a difference a day makes. this is a much better & more balanced wine tonight. i don't know if it is the wine, necessarily, or just me. i find none of the flabbiness i detected last night, there is still some nice candied fruit along with some very chewy tannins & very balanced acidity. tonight it clears the 90 point hurdle to 91 points. for what its worth, this was 23.99 at the grape tray. | | | |

| | I had this last week at a local restaurant and liked it as well. It's now on my "to buy" list. I agree w/ your 2nd day notes. | | | |

| i drank my last bottle of this last night at statta grill & bar. it was even better than the last time i had it & it paired remarkably well with thepork porterhouse with hoisin sauce that i had for dinner. there were none of the issues i detected in my initial notes on this wine from last year. this was a well-balanced & very enjoyable wine. there were no complaints from my friends at stratta who tasted it either. 92 points & i wish i had another bottle or 3 . | | | |
