Ok, first we tried the 02 Adrian Fog Savoy my friend has been trying to get me to buy this so we opened one on him. Now this was very very murky almost like looking at muddy water it was a bit scary but cool dang the nose was great all fruit it was very nice for the first few hours out of a decanter but after about hour 3 it was a bit wierd for me almost like bbq sauce and meaty still though it was pretty good will buy a few.
02' Littorai Savoy dumped this in a decanter as soon as we opened it and did it need it. First it was closed down like a little16 year old virgin but after about a hour it was hitting on all cylinders the fruit was really coming through and it has very nice structure initially I enjoyed the Adrian Fog but after a hour this was much better.
Well what next my friend said, hhhmmm well I walked in the cellar and said how about the 02' Martinelli Blue Slide he grinned and said cool. HHHHMMM this is staring to sound like a porno
Popped the cork and did not decant.
First I must say after reading on several forums about how murrky Martinelli Pinot's are I was very suprised to see how clear this was nice and clean I asked my buddy and he said they just take better care in the making of this wine, Dang it showed. This baby is what Pinot should taste like by then I was not in much shape to take notes but I must say it is one amazing wine it had it all complexity structure and fruit all wound up in this little package. If you have this in your cellar you are a lucky person, if you have a few you are a very lucky person and I would suggest opening one to try it for yourself do not hesitate cause it is so good now.
Glad I have 3 at home.
had the 02' Peter Michael Le Moulin Rouge a few weeks ago and I was trying find more fu ged a bout it I need to find some more Blue Slide it made drinking the Peter Michael a distant memory.
Almost time for Turkey so need to go Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

I have three of the '02 BSR and I will try to save them for special occasions. Parker (or Rovani) loved it. I think it was a 96 point wine.

We had this wine at The French Manor in the Poconos with a pan-seared veal chop with Brie, and a prime NY Strip with lobster scampi.

What a nose! It was intense as if being submerged in cherries and spice. Wow! What concentration! Pinot Zin at its finest. This needs time. 93 now and will surley improve.

I took a bottle of the '02 Blue Slide with me to dinner at Marcel's in DC last night. As the sommelier decanted it for me, Jake commented that you could recognize it from across the table the nose was so powerful. We didn't drink any more until about an hour later and it was superb. A dark garnet in the glass, it had a huge nose of spices and dark fruits, in fact a little jammy, but not obnoxiously so. On the palate it was all concentrated plums and berrys with smooth supple tannins and a long, long finish. Hints of strawberrys at the end. Karen thought it a little hot for her tastes, but I disagreed. Wonderful wine, just the thing to celebrate my birthday with. Easily 93+ points. I think I'll wait a couple of years to open the last one I have in the cellar if I can manage to keep my hands off it.

We had this wine at a BYO dinner last night. It seems far better as it ages a little. Incredible richness for a PN. 96/97

As I've said, I think this is the best Pinot Martinelli has made since 1999 (inclusive). (I've no pre 1999 experience with Martinelli). And, along with 2001 Peter Michael Le Moulin Rouge, I think this is the finest New World Pinot I've tasted.

What has blown me away about this wine is its ability to be incredibly expressive -- more so than any other Pinot I've ever had -- without seeming too alcoholic or over the top. It is actually balanced.
I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland.

My opinion is slightly different but the general observation of Martinelii 2002's the same. I've found that the 7 Mules, Zio Tony , and Blue Slide Ridge are not very different from each other in comparison to the variations of bottle, time of day, etc.

I've rated individual bottles of each up to 95 or so points at one time or another. More important was the availability which is least for the BSR.

I do like them more than the few 1999's, 2003's or 2001's I've tried.

They are different I think. The 02 is more masculine and may need some more time.
