2001 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Had to open this up for a toast to the great man who helped to revolutionize the wine industry in CA. Popped and poured. Medium to deep hue, very nice purple garnet. Very forward, pronounced nose, my wife and parents all commented on the aromas (always a great thing when you're sitting outside on a windy evening) which included nice notes of black fruits, spicy oak, and expresso beans. Medium bodied and very elegant. Currant & cassis, plums, vanilla bean, and minerals. Herbaceous notes lingered on the plus finish. The tannins of the 2001 vintage are certainly still apparent and could use another 2 years to settle for my taste. A classy wine from a great vintage that worked wonderfully as my small, impromptu homage to a true pioneer. RIP Robert.
