I rented "Festival Express" last night and thought Zin would be appropriate as I drank a lot of Zin during that period. I'm not a fan of the style of Zin that's currently in vogue, but I really enjoy the Zins from Cedarville. They remind me of the Zins I enjoyed in the 70's

Both wines were identically medium ruby colored.

The `00 was so delicious I wanted to chug it. Broad on the palate with yummy black raspberry and boysenberry flavors. So velvety. I don't see how this could improve. Drink now.

The `01 on the other hand showed darker cherry flavors with more noticeable oak. It was more focused and structured with quite a bit of tannin in the finish.
I enjoyed it very much, but more in a cerebral way than in a hedonistic way like the `00. Seems like a candidate for more time in bottle. I'm glad I've got more.

I spoke with Jonathan back in January at ZAP about his wines while tasting his '02 Zinfandel. He took notice that I was quite surprised upon tasting his '02 Zinfandel offering. I told him that I tried the '01 not too long ago and it wasn't my style of Zin but this one was really quite different and more to my taste profile, what happened?. He stated that with the '01 fruit they couldn't reach the taste profile they would have really liked but with the '02 they were able to achieve the Cedarville Zin style they are after. Just wait for the '03 !

My interest in this Zin has definately increased.
