| Knowing nothing about this winery, I picked this up on a whim at K & L when I was there, marked down from $26 to $17. Excellent color, and a striking nose that seems to typify Chiles Valley Zins, sort of a deeply concentrated, compact spicy nose of pine & spruce. This is not your jammy ripe Zin, but a tightly acidic, sharply focused wine, showing the aforementioned high forest notes, along with earthy minerals, spices (think Chinese five spice), and tart blackberries. It’s not going to be for everyone, but if you like this style of Zin (as I do), this is a good example – not a stunner, but a style that has it’s place. 88 points, drink now. | | | 2008: the end of an error |
