Almost done with the Paso Robles tasting notes. Next stop Eberle, which we were planning on skipping but ended up at as a last minute decision.
Tasted a large number of wines of varying quality.
2003 Mill Road Viogner - very nice. Apricot nose with some oak. Decent finish
2003 Estate Chardonnay - Fruity nose, not overly dense, not overly oaked, a one note wine that is drinkable but does not stand out.
NV Full Board Red - a quaffer, no varietals listed - tasted like cab and we were told possibly some barbera, but I thought sangiovese, but hard to pinpoint. Tannic and acidic.
2002 Sangiovese- also acidic, ok mouthfeel, light finish, smooth.
2002 Barbera - soft tannins, medium body, a one note simple wine.
2002 Zin - Steinbeck vineyard - jam, fruit forward zin, not overly interesting. MVL liked this one more than I did.
2001 Syrah - Steinbeck vineyard - Fruit, cherry nose, nice body, firm tannins but approachable. New world syrah and nice.
2001 Syrah - Reid vineyard - aged in french oak and decanted. Balanced, nice noce and less fruit up front than the Steinbeck.
2002 Cab-Syrah - nice balance, fruit on the nose and taste, abrupt finish.
2000 Estate Cab - Strong tannins. berries and plums, dense mouthfell but not overly done. Strong nose.
2000 Late Harvest Zin - raisins, not overly sweet as most of the dessert wine we tried on the trip were. Some caramel.
Our overall impression was that this was a decent stop, but nothing was very exciting or stood out particularly |
